Founding Partner and CEO
Helen is the Founding Partner and CEO of Silver Spring. She has had over 40 years of rich corporate experience as an HR practitioner in the public and private sectors, including the Public Service Commission, Ministry of Health, Civil Service Institute, Xerox, Haw Par Corporation, Ethyl Corporation, and Uniroyal Chemical Corporation.
A leading voice for the employment and continued productivity of experienced and mature workers, Helen was invited by SingHealth, the largest healthcare group in Singapore, to be a consultant on managing older employees in the workforce. From 2006 to 2009, she pioneered the Silver Connection Movement and was instrumental in creating a successful program to engage SingHealth’s mature employees to stay employed and to embrace the ethos of Renewing, Refreshing, Rewiring and Not Retiring. She also developed meaningful initiatives to invite retirees back to the healthcare workforce on a flexible part-time basis. An example was a postnatal home care program, engaging some 40 “retired” nurses and midwives on a flexible part-time basis.
In 2009, Helen decided on a career encore and founded Silver Spring, Singapore’s first social enterprise that champions the employment of mature workers aged 40 and above. She firmly believes that experienced and mature workers offer extensive experience, wisdom and a strong work ethic to bolster organizations in their business goals. Through re-career coaching and job placements, her passion is to enable these individuals to find the next chapter of their work life and help to put the bounce back in their lives.
In her spare time, Helen has been actively involved in spearheading initiatives to encourage older people to come back to the work force and to keep active. This includes setting up a café, called Chatters, which is operated by seniors over 50 years old and a travel cooperative called Silver Horizon, which tailors holidays for seniors.
